Yazhi Engineering, LLC is a 100% Native-owned engineering and analytics consulting firm based in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah. We bridge the gap between traditional engineering and modern data science, serving tribal governments, utilities, municipalities, water districts, businesses, and health care organizations.
What sets us apart is a unique ability to blend data analytics with civil and industrial engineering. We don't just design physical systems — we optimize the data, processes, and workflows that keep them running. By integrating business intelligence and process improvement into our engineering framework, we help clients eliminate operational waste, predict infrastructure needs, and make data-driven decisions for long-term community growth. As a lean, principal-led firm, clients receive direct, dedicated engineering expertise and personalized project oversight from start to finish.

Jay Yazzie is the founder and principal of Yazhi Engineering, LLC. His professional engineering experience is centered on water and wastewater infrastructure for tribal governments, utilities, and municipalities across the western United States.
His project experience includes water master planning, hydraulic modeling, and the design of pump stations, pipelines, and storage facilities for tribal utility authorities and water districts. He has authored preliminary engineering reports that secured federal USDA grant funding for tribal water system improvements, and has served as lead modeler on water master planning studies evaluating system capacity, water age, and long-term demand with development of capital improvement plans.
Alongside his civil engineering practice, Mr. Yazzie applies industrial engineering and data analysis methods — including optimization modeling and GIS-based asset management — to the same water systems he designs, an approach that led him to found Yazhi Engineering around the combination of all three disciplines.
Mr. Yazzie is also drawn to logistics and supply chain management, operations research, discrete-event and agent-based simulation, and statistics-driven data and business analytics, and welcomes the opportunity to support clients with needs in these areas.
He is a member of the American Water Works Association and is fluent in Navajo.
As a lean, principal-led firm, the person who scopes your project is the same person reviewing the calculations and signing the drawings.
Civil design, industrial engineering, and data analysis sit under one roof, so the handoffs between them don't cost you time or clarity.
Our project history runs through tribal utility authorities and regional water districts — infrastructure that has to work the first time.
